*This Piece Of Gear Was Issued To British Troops As A Part Of The Weapon Firing System. Unlike "American Style" Cartridge Boxes, Were Each Round Is Plucked From The Cartridge Box To The Gun, The English Cartridge Boxes Were Used To Store Unopened Packages Of Rounds. The 10 Round Package Was To Be Removed From The Cartridge Box, Opened, And Emptied Into The "Ball Bag". The Individual Rounds Were Taken From The "Ball Bag" And Loaded Into The Weapon. The Use Of The "Ball Bag" Can Be Seen In Many Photos Of Confederate Soldiers As Well As Some Federal Soldiers Carrying English Accoutrements. On The Same Token, There Are Many Photos Of Soldiers Carrying English Accoutrements Lacking The "Ball Bag". Import Records And Photos Show That "Ball Bags" Were In The America's During The American Civil War, But Their Use Would Be Determined By The Unit An Individual Is Portraying. As A Side Note, During The American Civil War And In The 1866 British Ordinance Manual, These Pouches Are Referred To As "Ball Bags" And Are Not Called "Expense Pouches" Until Some Time There After.*
