Reference Guide For Recommendation and Use

Before you use any leather care products, cleaning and or conditioning, identify what kind of leather you working with.

Leather Types Defined

Full Grain Leather:

Full grain leather is the highest quality grade of leather, made from the top layer of the hide. It retains the natural grain and imperfections of the animal’s skin, making each piece unique. Full-grain leather is durable and develops a patina over time, which enhances its beauty. It is often used in high-end leather products like furniture, bags, and shoes.

Top Grain Leather:

Top grain leather is a type of leather that is slightly lower in quality compared to full-grain leather. It is made from the top layer of the hide, but it is sanded and refinished to remove imperfections, giving it a more uniform appearance. While not as durable or natural-looking as full-grain leather, top grain leather is still of good quality and is commonly used in furniture, handbags, and other leather goods.

Nubuck leather:

Nubuck leather is a type of top-grain leather that has been sanded or buffed on the grain side to give it a soft, velvety surface. This process gives nubuck its characteristic appearance and texture, similar to suede, but with a finer grain. Nubuck is more durable and resistant to wear than suede, making it a popular choice for high-quality shoes, bags, and furniture. However, nubuck is also more susceptible to staining and requires regular cleaning and maintenance to keep it looking its best.

Suede Leather:

Suede Leather is a type of leather with a soft, fuzzy surface that is created by sanding the underside of the leather. It is made from the inner split of a hide, making it less durable than full-grain or top grain leather. Suede is known for its luxurious feel and is often used in shoes, bags, and garments. However, it requires more care and maintenance than other types of leather to prevent staining and damage.

Patent Leather:

Patent leather is a type of leather with a high-gloss finish. It is typically made from a high-quality leather base that is coated with a varnish or lacquer, giving it a shiny, reflective surface. Patent leather is known for its sleek and stylish appearance, making it popular for shoes, handbags, and other fashion accessories. It is also relatively easy to clean and maintain compared to other types of leather.
